Managed to knacker it quite well attempting to do what the Haynes manual said and rap it into the lower leg with a piece of PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. Have to get a new one now. While I'm at it, I figger I should replace both of the bushings in each shock as they do look a bit worn. But - How do you get the effin' things to go back into their seats in the lower leg? Easily? Without effin' anything up?
Frustrated. Worst fork seal job ever :bang-head:

Follow these (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrmYJgcGX30) instructions. They don't include how to install the BMW spring retainer plug but everything else is accurate and works. Holding the stanchion in a vise is essential for me. When it comes to installing the spring retainer, it's under pressure so keep out of the line of fire. As usual, it's essential to have patience.
