Title: Rebuild, or buy a new one???
Post by: nsarvai on April 17, 2016, 09:57:23 PM
I have a 1994 BMW K75, that I took out of storage this year, had to rebuild that caliber in the rear. I did all that smoothly then bleed the brakes. When doing this I came across a lead that I didn't know about. The master cylinder seal is leaking. After taking it for a ride the brakes hold up fine, but still leaks. I have been looking at parts and would like input. Should I get a rebuild kit for $90, or should I buy a new master cylinder for $250?

Rebuild kit should be all you need since you report the brake is working but leaks.

You may be able to open it up and clean it up real good to cure it......
I had my front MC not building pressure, though it wasn't leaking.
Pulled the piston out, cleaned the bore, honed it, re-assembled and all is well. Builds pressure good and firm, no leaks.

I just ordered the rebuild kit online! I will have to take it apart and check that out before I use the lot! I just want to get out riding again! Had to take my R60 out for a spin instead today! Thanks again for the help!

I get most of my parts from MAX BMW Motorcycles!
http://maxbmwmotorcycles.com
They are the same price as the BMW store online, but figured it's a lot closer to home for shipping! Anywhere I looked it was the same price!
