Title: Cafe Bar Choice
Post by: Turbo224 on April 07, 2016, 01:31:41 PM
I'm looking at bar options for my K75s, and think i'd like to do something with this shape. http://www.dimecitycycles.com/7-8-inch-satin-black-dcc-original-speed-clubman-handlebars.html My question is weather or not the risers on the stock upper triple tree clamp can be removed and replaced with a set of risers that are the correct 7/8" to work with this type of handlebar, or am I going to have to go with strap-ons.

I'd try and look a bit further. No doubt clubman bars are available somewhere in metric sizes, somewhere...

Possibly the closest you're going to come to a 22mm clubman is a Flanders F23 "R100S" flat bar (http://www.sideroadcycles.com/ImportedMotorcycles/ImportHandlebars/BMWbars/FlanBMW2.html).

If you go 7/8" clubman, you might get away with clamping the bar in the stock fittings, but you risk that the curve in the bar will interfere with the upper triple tree.  You might have to get taller risers to clear the triple tree and to allow you to raise the stanchions (which you probably will also contemplate for coolness).

Other risers may possibly fit; you'll have to shop wisely.  BMW Controls will will need to be modified to fit the 7/8" bars OR, better yet, grind the bars down where the controls fit to avoid all the problems you'll end up having because the throttle tube interferes with the thicker bar.

In addition to Robert's astute observations, here's (http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/r75-5-handlebar-fitting.774453/) a relevant discussion, Tyler, and here's (http://www.cafetwin.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_50&products_id=415&zenid=104e92182c44938df8f3e02a3c7a36d9) a link to some 22mm fancy bars.

You'll see many ads as you shop that may imply that ⅞" and 22 mm are equivalent but they aren't.

OK, Turbo, time for your initiation to the wits of the asylum inmates in return for the meager knowledge they have imparted: give us the story on your avatar pic.............and if you say you own a P-51 Mustang, we'll all resign our exalted positions!

I won't because I'm not exalted yet.

That picture was taken at a car show I attended in Heber, UT. There is a small aircraft museum that decided they would do an annual car show to help fund the museum. Enter your car and you get a cool photo shoot with a number of vintage air crafts. The orange car is mine (71 Cuda 440-6pk), the yellow car is my brothers (also a 71 Cuda 440-6pk) and the purple car is my dads (70 Cuda convertible with a Hemi).
