Title: Riding a Brick in Cape Town and the rest of Western Cape in South Africa

Thought I would start a thread with some pics of my rides in Cape Town and in the wider Western Cape.

Pls post yours, looking for some new routes as well.

This must be one of the most beautiful places in the world to live and ride (OK, in summer definitely, sometimes in winter).

Will try to mostly do it with my K1 in it, but may slip some of my airhead in.

There is not many bricks (left) in Cape Town, although we have a bike shopped named after them (FLYING BRICK).

Post by: Scud on March 31, 2016, 04:21:19 PM: Been there a couple times on business, but with some time to see the sights a bit. Didn't get to ride a motorcycle while there, but did surf a couple times. Went up Table Mountain, toured Robben Island, visited some wineries.

Very interesting place - beautiful, scary, historically significant, current world stage (I was there right before the World Cup) - a land of great contrast.

Thanks for the pics - makes me want to go back. Post more.

She started life as a classic "marrakesh red with broom handle yellow" poster bike (see below), but got repainted into the later year model's colours.

Torn between keeping her as is, returning to the original colours or going grey as suggested.

Went for some more riding this weekend. Saturday was a variation of my normal peninsular route (sorry no photos), did my longest non stop ride so far, just shy of three hours. OK, hate to admit it, but she is not the most comfortable "cruiser" in terms of riding position, makes up for it in terms of how she eats miles and composure at speed. Beginning to feel more comfortable in turns, even on our bumpy roads.

On Sunday explored some new territory. When up the west coast, to Philadelphia for coffee (highly recommended) and then found the old road to Malmesbury. Narrow, bumpy, up and down, long straights and some sneaky turns. :riding: I eventually bailed, the surface got to scary in terms of potholes and washed away edges, but definitely tested the touring side of the suspension.

This is what she was made for, spend 3 hours in the saddle, absolutely stunning bike for twistys, don't need a smooth road, soaks up the bumps, , predictable through the turns, don't need to change down often. Like the riding position.

Amazing that there is four passes between Cape Town and Stellenbosch.

Found a mobile coffee shop in "the middle of nowhere"!

great to see another K-Bike in Cape Town! Stunning bike by the way, and I wouldn't be in a rush to change the paint finish...

I've recently bought a 1984 K100rs and I'm looking forward to taking her out and about - I live close to Stellenbosch.. family responsibilities make this a bit difficult at the moment, but I might be taking a ride with a friend this weekend - maybe around Durbanville Hills... will try and get some pics.

I've never seen so many motorcyclists taken out by cars, I've never seen so many snakes on a golf course, and I've never had better butterfish before or since --->http://walskipper.co.za/about-us/

It was an eye opening, magnificent trip.

No, the owners were a young couple(at the time), with a whole pack of Boston Bull terriers...what a bunch of characters they were too lol. It was outdoor seating with the cool evening breeze in your hair and your toes in the sand enjoying the last of the days warmth. We went through 3 bottles of the excellent South African Riesling, and the butterfish was wood fire grilled right in front of us.

Ah, man...what a night. :yes
