The plan for my bike is to put on a small stubby exhuast and expose that lovely single sided swing arm. I also think the left side of the engine looks better, so I;d like to move the sidestand to the right side. Can anyone tell me if this is doable and what has to be done?

Here is a disassembled side and center stand assembly. It is not reversible. I think if you wanted to swap it, you'd need to fabricate a new bracket. You might also need to fabricate a new sidestand. Are you planning to keep the center stand?

It's doable but not simple. And if you park it in a line of other bikes it going to look like a real oddball.

And if you park it on the shoulder of the highway (unless you're someplace where they drive on the wrong side) . . .

Thanks guys. I assumed it would take some sort of custom bracket. It's not something I'd do myself but I just wanted to see what was involved. I assume not a particularly difficult job for the right person?
I'm not that worried about it looking odd in a line of bikes, I want to expose the bikes 'good side' - like this:

A mate of mine has started the process of putting side stands on both sides. Due to a dodgy leg he mounts from the left side, and also due to OZ driving on the left, the lean angle can be a problem when parking on heavily cambered roads ( I have put a thicker foot on my stand and carry a 5.5" square post cap as an additional spacer ). Due to health issues the side stand is on hold but I will takes pictures if and when he completes it.

Always thought they should have put the engine in with the head on the right so oil wouldn't into the combustion chamber when parked on the sidestand. That would be a side benefit of switching.

Dangerous down side to switching sides is the possibility of a high side. If the sidestand contacts the ground while in motion, well you can guess the rest.

Almost anything's doable with enough money, material and connections—creating a launch system like this would seem to be, anyway.
How about posting a picture of your bike as it is now, colly, in the Projects section? It sounds like it's going to be one.

Just had a talk to my mate about his dual stand conversion, a fair bit of welding and manufacturing involved. He is going to weld onto the existing stand the necessary bits, and use a modified spare side stand. You need to have really good welds, and there is also a problem of water getting into the tank. The drain is on the left hand side, and you would have to be careful when opening the cap so as not to let water in. He is looking at putting another drain on the left hand side.

Yes I'll certainly do that! I just got her delivered yesterday - going to start work soon I'll start a thread and keep it all in there :)

Isn;t there just the same chance on the left side, or would it be more exposed on the right for some reason? To be honest this is probably one of the last things I'll do, wont be for months, but I just wanted to see if its viable and if many have done it before..

Bricks normally have a safety feature built in to stop you riding with the stand down. Some of them have a cut out switch which won't allow you to start the bike without retracting the side stand. Others have an automatic retraction of the stand when the clutch lever is pulled in.

i have had lotts of wornout tiors...thats the reason for the right side kick... moves the weight from the left side to the right side...

Amazing how you managed to make all the lettering backwards as well!! :clap:

It's an old biker trick..........mount the tires backwards and you'll double the tread life.
