My manual if I read correctly says .85 L. Which is almost 29oz converted. Is this the correct amount to replace the transmission fluid?

.85 Liter is just under 29oz. Hopefully you have a brick not in you sig line, hate to give out info to oilhead people :riding:

If you still have the original shock spanner it is also used to check the tranny level, here the measurements if you need to fabricate one....

I made one out of a piece of square aluminum and a old screwdriver handle. Cut it off a little longer than needed and filed the mark, 115mm from the base of the handle. Filed another mark at 75mm (not in this picture) to use the tool as a measurement for the exposed portion of the clutch cable.

Thanks Chaos, that pic you posted two posts up just explained my error!!! When I followed the manual's instructions and had the curve part of the tool facing the direction of travel, the dipstick wasn't going in the full depth. I subsequently overfilled (by a hockeysock full) and promptly vented all over my exhaust riding in to work today.
On the upside, my smoke cleared all the mosquitoes in the province!
Draining and refilling properly tonight. :swear:

If the tool's outside radius was inserted in the direction of travel, it would contact the forward edge of the transmission case which would prevent its being lowered to the proper position. This photo from the BMW K75/K100 manual shows the tool rotated approximately 50º outward from the direction of travel. Be certain that the flat milled bottom of the tool's radius (#1 in the photos) rests on the surface of the fill hole.

Yep, that's exactly what I did (the part where it doesn't fully insert). Then I did the most important step in my "How to oil your exhaust" tutorial - ignore all voices in your head screaming "this can't be right". If you miss this step, there's a very high liklihood that you will fail in getting the gearbox oil to properly vent over your hot exhaust in the middle of standstill summer traffic.
