Title: WTB Air intake manifold

This parts plugs into the bottom of the air box and is item number 11 on the parts fiche.

Post by: Martin on March 05, 2016, 05:43:09 PM: Once the type of plastic is determined, pieces can be cut out of a sheet and welded in. I suggest you take it to a plastic welder and let him have a look. You have nothing to loose at this stage.

And where do you find a plastic welder, Don? Contact a heating/ventilating contractor. You could also try repairing it using epoxy resin on fiberglass cloth strips shingled over the holes then finished with sanding and painting. It's arts-and-craftsy fun for sure. You could eventually end up making kayaks and boats if you're not careful.

How about a photo of the flip-side?

Give it try on some plastic of a similar density; it'll cost you under 20 bucks for enough supply to repair that, a truck's rusty, perforated cab corner and a few other choice metal or plastic relics. Rubber gloves, ventilation and a temperature above 50ºF are essential. It can get smelly and messy so the kitchen table or prime living space won't fly for this project.

Post by: The Mighty Gryphon on March 05, 2016, 07:40:28 PM: Laitch, that intake is made of either polypropylene or ABS. Either way, fiberglass won't work on it because it won't stick. Almost nothing will. Welding or stitching with fine stainless fishing leader are probably the best ways to go.

There are a lot of choices out there for ABS repair, Don. I think you'll come out of this for way less than the cost of an original part. Certainly worth a try.

If you feel compelled to do something, Don, you could always upgrade the tape and spray the whole assembly with textured coating as camouflage.
