Title: Shock adjustment wrench alternatives
Post by: leecow on July 21, 2011, 01:28:49 PM
Hey folks,

If one wanted to experiment with shock preload settings but did not have the original adjustment wrench (http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd470/Motobrick/gen_maint/transoillevel.jpg), what might be an effective alternate tool? Fairly certain the shock in question is the original.

If it's a stock shock then you could just buy a shock wrench from Ride Worst.  Part # 71112315897.  About $10 or so.

If you're not backpacking until 8/8 then you should come pay a day visit at the cabin on 8/6.  I can send you home with some extra fresh Dungee too.  The cabin's only about 45 minutes from the Kingston ferry dock.

Yep, I plan on making it out for Saturday at least. Might be able to get out Friday night if I play my cards right but that will depend on timing and the ferry line once I can get moving.

The shock wrench for measuring tranny oil only came with the two valve tool kit: part 71112300061

The four valve bikes tool kit came with a separate L-shaped dipstick: part 71112316195

I made my own dip-stick the other day. I found it difficult to get a "reading" off just a metal stick, so I added a bit of black heat-shrink tubing to it which made it much better. Then I added a piece of red heat-shrink offset by 10 mm so as to mark the "max" level. Worked out quite well. Just hope the heat-shrink never falls off into the transmission...  :D
