Title: Undressing the K1100
Post by: ramnaam on January 11, 2016, 07:54:13 AM
Hello K-familiy!

Gonna try and keep the introduction short and upload as many pictures as possible instead. I bought the K1100 knowing I would not want to keep it full faired, the K75/100 naked look suites my bikes purpose much better. So that's what I'm going for.

I bought the bike not running, but starting on starter gas. I had been researching the platform for some time and knew about the various reasons that might cause the fuel pump not to run. Did some checks and came to the conclusion that the fuel pump was faulty(unfortunately).

Now, pictures!

The bike in all its glory!(former police bike)

Stripped some fairing to make things easier to access.

Removed gas cap

Pulled the pump, which was fairly simple

I've seen this before, not sure why people leave the strainer like this

This was old and brittle, so ordered a replacement

New parts, funny how these cost about the same..

Some of the dirt in the tank I cleaned out

I drained and flushed the tank 3 times, filtered the fuel through a rag. This is the first pass. This in combination with the open strainer, I'm not really surpriser the pump failed.

New installation!

Purrs like a kitten, more to come.

For sure, next up is changing all fluids and filters, some new spark plugs as well. After that she'll run smoothly all summer.

Good eye! I included that picture just as a tease. It's an S2, and belongs to the owner of the shop. Might snap a shot or two of it next update.

Congrats on the bike.... I just picked one up this weekend and am planning on the same project as you. Will keep an eye on this thread as I am not even sure where to start.
