Thinking of swapping out early TB for an updated '87 clean tight unit. Only thing I need is an updated longer cable?, I think. Not quite plug and play. That's a question, I think.
-
How did you determine that the assembly needed a longer cable, Nine80seven?
-
Checked out a parts list which says differing cable lengths at 6/86. Also, the cable cradle at the TB is different, longer in the '87 unit. Just thought maybe somebody would know for sure. Whatever, thanx. When you go through an old bike there's a lot of stuff to re-figger. It's like, whoa nellie, wotsdis?

It can be a puzzle, sure enough.
For example, the MAXBMW microfiche shows the same throttlebody assembly part number for K100RS models from '84 to '89 without any notation for an exception in '87. I guess that's what makes restoration so much fun. :yow

Got some parts from those guys, need some more. Fun winter. Better than sittin around grumpy. Hope this mile cruncher comes back good as new. Don't want anything newer. 90-100 horse is just right. Cheers on the new year.

The two different lengths shown in the parts lists using the same lower bracket.
But it was a change late -84/early -85 which a different bracket and cable (both NLA) was used earlier.
If you have this early cable (with a adjustement screw around the height of the headstock)
you can use the old bracket together with your newer TB setup.

Early 85 K100 TB. Ferrule even with stop. Short cradle.
-
89 K100 TB, long cable cradle, waaaay longer, about double length from early.
-
Interesting, I haven't noticed this difference earlier.
It seems to be related to the change in cable lenght in 06/86, as you have pointed out earlier.
I also see that it is a third version cable bracket involved.
