Title: Rear Wheel Hubcap
Post by: motoman on November 03, 2015, 04:05:18 PM
Question about the rear wheel hubcap.

Fixing up a 1991 K75RT and noticed my rear wheel does not have a hubcap/cover over the lug bolts.  Is it missing or did that year not have them?  Finding conflicting information on the internets about which hubcap style fits the RT.  Which style is it? The cast rims on mine are NOT the 3-spoke kind (pic of my rear wheel attached).  I know the cover is just for looks, but I'd like her to look pretty.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

**Update**  Thanks for the replies everyone.  Ordered from a dealer, cap that will hopefully fit.   Part # 36132311016.

I don't know if the hub cap was standard on your K75RT but my 91 K100LT came with one.  I understand that they are no longer available for the dealer.

The hub cap will fit that type of wheel.

greetings...

i put a brick of irish grass fed highland cow butter in a zip lock... and a lid of fine weed... stick it in the wheel hub hole... put my wheel hub cover on there...

after about one hundert miles the lid has been tumbled into the butter just right and there you go... grass fed highland weed butter...

My '90, purchased new, did not come with one. My '87 k100rs did. My '95 k75rt did not.  The latter two were pre-owned however.

It appears that there are two rear wheel caps that were used, a small black one that only covered the hole in the center of the wheel and a larger Silver one that covered the wheel bolts.  My K75's are both '94's and have different covers.  RT with small, S with large.

Seems like they were used at random at the factory.  Or maybe they figured the RT and LT models didn't need the big cap since the hub would almost always be hidden behind the tragkorb.

It looks like there were three hub cap versions maybe, if the small one that doesn't cover the lugs is counted. I'm attaching some images.

The first image is of the typical three-spoke hub cap. The rim of the wheel hub has a tiny notch and the cap has a nub that fits into it.

The second group of images is of the cap that fits the Y-spoke wheels. It seems that the depths of the hubs of the two wheel styles differ. I've gleaned that from looking at images while actually wearing my glasses.

Third Version, used on monolever three spoke wheels....same cover as K11 but the long metal clip
from the Y-spoke wheels.
Used on K-75's which have four bolts, K11's have five bolts and a cup at the middle bolt for the
shorter metal Clip.
It never have been a OEM cover for only the hole in the middle (and not the bolts) of the rim on these models.
From the factory all have a cover that hides the bolts.

Motoman,
Did the hub cap work with your "Y" wheel? Is it the early style cap?

Thanks for your help.

I just placed an order with Max's BMW (at the 15% November discount). Their parts-fiche showed two caps, a standard one as shown for about $8 or $9 and another one with a BMW logo for a couple bucks less. I decided to try the cheaper one with the logo.

I haven't seen a picture of it, just the line drawing on the parts fiche. Hopefully it's blue and white.

It's used on a lot of R models, which I believe it's what it's originaly made for.
