Title: Front seal locking ring.. !?
Post by: ChristSFP on October 26, 2015, 03:58:52 PM
Either my lack of sleep due to baby hours are killing me or there is something serious wrong with my setup..?

So the front shock is of the bike, everything is off and my plan was to change the leaking seal.. but I can't remove the seal due to this looking ring. Please advice on a practice to remove it =/

It is just a round ring with a ca 1,5 cm piece lacking.. So nothing I can put a plier around or use a lockring plier =(

Locking ring/circlip is an incomplete circle I remove with 2 small screwdivers + dental pick:can be stubborn.

Ahh, thanks! Will try again after some sleep, could not get it to move with a small screwdriver yesterday but a toothpick might do the trick =)

I just did this today and it was actually easy.  Note that the ends of the ring are beveled- what I did was slip a small (1/8") screwdriver under the bevel on one end and pry straight toward the center of the fork slider.  As soon as I had it just clear of the groove, I inserted an X-acto knife blade behind it so it couldn't snap back into the groove.  Then, I moved the screwdriver to the other end of the ring, just to keep the ring from rotating in the groove as I slid the X-acto knife around the perimeter.  About halfway around, the ring popped out completely.
It actually took more time to write this than to get the ring out!
