So the '90 K75RT cafe build is coming along nicely. I need to sort out the exhaust and rearsets and then it's just small stuff.
-
Wow looks nice!! Great job you done there.

"Wow looks nice!! Great job you done there."
+1 bike has "attitude"
-
Is the right fork tube extended more than the left?
You're sure making a nice looking machine.
-
Thanks Laitch... I didn't notice any issues with the folk legs and it's probably just the gaiters that are uneven. I plan on pulling the fork legs/triples and removing the unused tabs as well as adding some preload and 10w fork oil.
Still in the works;
~ Shorten the exhaust
~ Change out the rearsets
~ Install stainless lines
~ Remove tabs from the front of the gas tank
~ Resolve the reversed fuel indicator issue
~ Dial in the MPH/Tach readings
~ Seafoam the engine and clean injectors.
~ New rear shock
-
I was looking at the amounts showing above the tree—probably just the angle of the image. I hope you'll do a video of the finished product in action.
-
Definitely good above the triple... Double checked it when I lowered them.

10-4

Very clean look! Where have you hid the battery, and what brand are you using? Also, where did you source the seat?
-
Battery is an Antigravity 16 Cell (should have got the 12) and it's not hidden. It's in the triangle opening laying down flat.
The seat I made myself but had it covered at a local upholsterer.
Can't wait to post the updated pics but need to finalize a couple things. Stripped an polished the aluminum tank, new custom made rearsets, re-shaped front fender from an '86 painted with an aluminum finish, stainless lines all the way around and a crossover exhaust to the right side for a fully exposed rear wheel.

Look forward to seeing the update photos. You have done a fantastic job!
-
Nice, nice looking bike! Always a great option on the Ks...I actually don't think the stock pipe looks too bad on the bike. Cross-over will be cool, though. Good luck!
-
can't quite read the sidewalls...what type/size tires are those?
-
Nice looking bike! Couple questions:
- Where did you put your ignition switch?
- What instrument cluster do you have?
Well done!
Brian
-
Tires are Kenda Challengers and I'm not sure on the sizes.
Went with the Acewell speedo.
And the ignition switch went here.
-
how is the seat attached? Would love to see some more detail there. Great looking bike
-
The bike looks fantastic! Really looking forward to seeing the updated pics and what you've got for the exhaust and rear sets. I've just picked up a 94 K75rt and am in the process of stripping it down/ordering parts. Hope it can turn out even half as good as this one - great work!
-
Just got her back from getting the exhaust collector built. Came out pretty good but is loud as hell :yow.
-
Wow - looks great man. What kind of rear sets are those? Also, how difficult was it to route the exhaust to the other side? Looking forward to seeing a few more pics of the whole bike when you get chance. Nice work
-
Looks like a great way to melt both left and right boots while slowly going deaf. .. ;-)
-
That is exactly what I was shooting for Mlytle :2thumbup:
Actually, I cruised it for a while then sat for a while at idle and surprised there were no heat issues.
-
Did a quick polish on the tank and snapped a couple more pics. Just need to sort out the rear shock and stiffen up the front and it will be done-ish.
-
Looks great - thx for posting the pics - been following your build and am really impressed! Quick question for you, when you were connecting your acewell, did you cut the wires from the harness that connected to the old speedo cluster or did you find a way to interface the acewell with the harness? I'm a bit stuck on this and don't want to cut it if there is another easy solution
-
Best bet is to cut the harness and wire it up direct. Do a search on this site for the acewell and you will find the specifics on wiring it up. A few things to keep in mind.
You will need to build a circuit to deal with the cluch/gear position ignition cutoff
When connecting the tach wire make sure to use the provided resistor inline or the reading will "flutter"
You will need to use the provided magnetic pickup to a point on one of the wheels as the stock pickup will not work
You will need to pull the fuel sender from the tank and reverse a part to make it work. Instructions also can be found on this site

Thanks for the helpful tips! Also had one of these recommended to me: brotbox http://maru-labs.com looks pretty cool. I'm inquiring about cost/shipping etc and then will see if it's worth it
-
Very clean build.....Good job! What's the clearance on the rear tire and exhaust?
-
It's about 1.5". No heat issue.
-
Hey Markus77, I didn't even know that brotbox existed. That definitely would have saved me some time and would have had a way better end result
-
Damn, I thought it was looking great at the first post. Now it's truly exceptional. I'd like to come check it out sometime - you can't be more than 15 miles from me.
-
Hey Scud, yeah we could meet up somewhere on the coast on the weekend. Just lemme know :2thumbup:
-
I've put in an order for the Brotbox - it's coming from Switzerland but I'm excited to see how it works - I'll keep you posted. Really like the way your bike turned out - I also want to get the exhaust on the other side but that's way beyond my skills. Hoping to have a friend come and have a look over the holidays to see if he can help with that. What/where did you find your exhaust? I was worried about the heat issues but you mentioned it wasn't bad so I'd like to try it. Please let me know when you get a chance, Thx:)
-
On the exhaust I pulled the center stand, trimmed all the metal off the case and bought the pipe. Had a local exhaust shop modify the collector and weld up the bend. My part was easy!
So I've had the bike out for a couple long rides now. I've noticed a trend... Some people really dig the bike like I do and then there's the people that comment "Hmmm, that's different". I'm almost offended but then I remember that different is one of the main reasons I did a K bike build.
-
Betcha that's cause people don't recognize it........BMW's have jugs ,right? Just ask folks who comment "Do you ride? Whatcha got?" and you'll find either they don't ride or they don't ride a BMW! As the Ural folks say, you have to remember the UDF.......Ural Delay Factor from all the curious people. You are just experiencing KDF! Beautiful bike you got there!
-
I don't care if people like my bike! I know what I have, you know what I have and we know what we have! A little off-beat, nicely made (understatement), a little quirky, nimble and big in the "smile on my face" department! They ain't buildin' 'em anymore and I feel lucky to own one. That'll do....
-
You just go fast! Confusion to the enemy!
-
Very nice bike! How is your experience with the Antigravity Battery? Does it charge alright or did you have to change anything besides installing it? Thanks in advance!
-
Now that is one good lookin bike :2thumbup:Nice work mate
-
No issue at all with the Antigravity Battery.
-
Here's what she looks like today... For sale in the San Diego area if anyone is interested.
-
Nice looking bike.
Are you sure that instrument cluster is mounted securely enough? :yes
-
Hey Tim, you have no idea how many times I've had it on my list to replace those bolts with smaller black countersunk bolts.
-
Nice job! Very clean and sharp! What's the price?
-
Asking $4,500.
-
You are offering a lot of motorcycle for a fair price considering R Nine T's are going for $15,000. Very impressed with your attention to detail. Good luck and let us know how you do with the sale.
-
I really like the way it turned out - as mentioned before great attention to detail. I've looked at your build many times and I think you've done a great job. I don't know the California market, but I'd say if someone buys this for $4500 they are getting an amazing deal. I think given the work you've put in you should ask a bit more:)

Markus what is this brotbox? Is this additional for aftermarket speedo? thanks.
-
It's designed to be used with an aftermarket speedo on the K bikes. It allows functions like starting the bike without having the clutch pulled, gear indication, low fuel level. I can't comment on how it works as I haven't gotten my bike to the point where it's connected yet, but the actual wiring of it is pretty straight forward. I'm hoping to have the bike done in the next 2 months and then I can let you know how it works.
-
Could you please take a picture when you connect the cables, I am going to use acewell 2853, which one are you going to use?
-
great looking bike. what type of a coolant bottle is that??
