I read this:

But I don't have a way to remove and remount a tire, and it seems like a huge ordeal to go through for lack of the proper BMW tool. Has anyone tried an alternative to this or tried to fashion some kind of replacement for the $190 BMW wheel bearing tool? Any help appreciated -- dealer wants 1.5 hrs labor plus the parts, local motosports shop probably can't do it at all for lack of the special tool...

I did front bearings without dismounting tire , used a small inside bearing race remover , it was tricky since there is a sleeve between both bearings .hard to get jaws to bite between sleeve and race . if you choose to tackle this job be sure to measure the distance from the outer race to the edge of the rim on the left side of rim. this is what affects centerline of wheel and abs sensor spacing .

Thanks -- I did a search but I guess I missed that thread. I'll study this for a week and see if I want to tackle it. If not, it looks like the special BMW puller isn't required so I think a motosport mechanic would be able to do it. I'm short on time right now.
