Title: What is this? #2
Post by: ChristSFP on September 22, 2015, 07:30:02 AM
Picture 1. What is this outlet? Seems to small for 12V?

Picture 2. There is a bolt that holds the rear "arm" for mounting the faring. This bolt goes down towards the engine and seems to be pressurized? When trying to remove the bolt to remove the arm, the is a designative "pyyyssszz" sound ;) What is this?

#1 is a power connection. On my LT it is up on the switch panel. I don't use mine so I'm not sure where to get the part that plugs into the receptacle, but I believe its a BMW standard part.

The first picture is a 12v outlet. BMW (and most bikes) uses a smaller size than car standard. You can readily find a converter/extension cord to bring it to Car Size Cigarette lighter size.

The 2nd situation, makes no sense....the bolt is not pressurized. I suspect you're just hearing lock tight breaking free....I've removed mine with no issues. IF something does come squirting out of it when you remove it, be sure you're filming it...I think we'd all need to see it to believe it!  :bmwsmile

Good luck!

Super, thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, #1 seems right, #2 however is just weird.. like opening a champagne cork... way more pressure than just the Loctite ;)

Get the powerlet plug for your battery tender and simplify your life...plug 'n charge, unplug 'n go.

To follow up, the bolt did make the "psssiitt" sound.. but I have no explanation.. I´ve pulled it of yesterday to do some paint jobs on the project..  My guess it that over the years condensation had been traped below the bolt and with engine heat this water had expanded =/ Anyhow.. no worries =)
