Hello All. Been a really long time since I've posted - working nights (finally on days) and family commitments will do that. Anyways, here goes. The good: recent complete service down in Chicago to include new tires and some repairs to the tune of 2 large. The bad: about a month ago second and forth gears wont engage and grind. More bad: I'm about 99.9% sure that it's my fault from something dumb I did 2 years ago (they didn't go near the xmission or even change the lube). Anyhow, I now have this 500lb paper weight sitting in my garage that I can't use. So, do I source a good used one off of ebay (or on here?), part it out (it's cosmetically challenged but only has 56k), or sell it for peanuts and possibly move on to a new BMW or other European bike?

Well, you can pick up both motor + trans for $350 on ebay right now(freight shipping). Seems cheap compared to the service and you get a spare motor. :2thumbup:
Or you could make a Franken project by getting a '91 &later k100 trans and rear end. Viola! A paralever K75.
Hope you keep her running,

I'd replace the gearbox with a good used one, and do a spline lube / clutch check while you're in there.
The gearbox is actually an easy thing to replace. It might take you a whole weekend but it's not rocket science.
Search the forum for "clutch spline lube".

+1 on used gearbox. Probably your most cost effective option if the rest of the bike is decent.

Thanks everyone. That's the route I was planning (replace with a used box), but just wanted to see what the folks on this board had to say. In the mean time, I still have my Moto Guzzi to ride for the remainder of the season.

Mr. Monkeyclaw in Appleton might be a source for a trans if he has a K bike.
Pretty much any K75, k100 or K1100 trans will fit. The only difference is color and the paralever tans has additional 2 drilled holes for mounting the paravever.
