Title: Anybody running EBC pads and Rotors ??
Post by: mejetski2000 on September 07, 2015, 07:15:20 PM
So last year I rebuilt my front calipers, master cylinder, installed new hoses along with EBC pads and rotors. OE BMW pads about half worn but wouldn't stop squeaking. Well, now I have no squeak but these frigging pads don't bite for shit. Countless bleeding sessions have got me nowhere, same for cleaning pads and rotors. I'm giving serious consideration to throwing all this EBC shit in the ocean and just buying new Brembo and be done with it. Is Brembo really theway to go and did I just waste about $400 ?

I have not run the EBC on my K as of yet. Ran them on a sport bike I had a while back and researched them for the K.
I will say that you most likely did not waste money on the rotors. Now the pads??....
It is important to note which pads you purchased. EBC makes different types of pads, each with differing materials.
There are "organics", "ceramics" "semi-metallic", "sintered"  "carbon", "kevelar" or mixtures of these.

Personally not a fan of the organics.

The "carbon" are track oriented. What this means is that you have to get them hot before they will even begin to bite. Definitely not good for street.

The sintered/semi-metallic mix or regular semi-metallic pads are the ones that will work best for regular street riding, .... if memory is correct.

Tldr; Basically check to see if you got the right pads for the type of riding you do.

Hope this helps,

I have the sintered EBC pads currently. I'm replacing the front brake master cylinder since I've already put a kit in it and don't feel like it's generating enough pressure judging from the velocity of the fluid coming out thru the caliper bleeders, moving pretty sluggishly. Lever has a crunchy feel to it I don't like either.

rodger that...

rubber particles from your old hoses could be clogging up the fluid system at your calipers...

Yeah, I replaced and rebuilt everything at same time to make sure no old parts were left in the system to prevent just that issue..

I've done a lot of brakes, calipers, etc and the pressure just seems pretty weak pushing fluid out of the calipers. No "spurt" just sluggish flow.

rodger that...

the master has been known to cause low pressure and sometimes not return the lever all the way when the piston is in too far... generally by pulling the lever all the way to the bars during bleed which is beyond normal travel... instead of stopping before the bars which is normal travel...

Exactly what happened, wife got forceful and blew it up. I put a kit in but didn't feel "right" and seems to lack pressure. Gotta start somewhere I guess...
