Hello,
So I wanted to lube my K75's drive shaft spines, so I get on Amazon and order Honda 60 moly past, being a Prime member I get it in 2 days, free shipping. So after receiving box I open only to find a small tube of M-77 assembly lube, so looking that up on line I find it's used on brake caliper shims when doing a brake job. I return M-77 and reorder.....next box, same thing, repeat one more time....same thing. Amazon is tired of sending me what I didn't order so all is returned. Now I look up Honda paste on eBay and vendors advertising it are selling M-77 paste as an updated item replacing 60 moly..... Anyone else running into this? I ended up lubing splines with Marine Moly past (comes in can with blue label).
Last question: what is best lube for clutch splines? My bike shifts easily, but is clunky (1st to 2nd is worst, down shifting lower gears noisy).
Thanks,
Cris

Honda has stopped producing Moly 60 so Amazon is fulfilling orders with a lubricant that is nearly equivalent (it's stated on the Amazon page for M77 as being a replacement for Honda Moly 60). Another lubricant that is recommended for splines is Guard Dog 525 (http://www.beemerboneyard.com/gdmoly2oz.html) available from Beemer Boneyard. I've read about one K-bike owner who has used assembly paste to lubricate splines but I'm not sure what the long term outcome would be. You're looking for high moly content lubricant, >60%.

You might check with some local Honda dealers and see if any have any stock left of the moly 60.

I'm still using the same tube of Castrol Optimol Paste TA (http://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/FusionPDS.nsf/Files/104BC52BC4CE1D06802577960030186B/$File/453856_XI_en.pdf) that the BMW dealer recommended in 2011.

For those of you looking for the Castrol product, a British website has it for an excellent price shipped for under $25.

Search for part number 95815 and determine if that is what you're looking for.

+1 Guard Dog -- I have both it and the Honda Moly 60 and end up using the Honda Moly for everything but the gear splines -- GD is considerably tackier and seems like it would stick better.

Dang, is the M77 no bueno? I took the word of the part guy at the honda dealer that it was an improved replacement when I lubed my rear splines after getting my bike.

The MSDS for Molykote-M77 (http://www1.dowcorning.com/applications/search/products/details.aspx?prod=01005103&type=PROD&dsctry=USA) states:
Molybdenum Sulfide: 50% - 70%
Dimethyl, Phenylmethyl siloxane, trimethyl-terminated: 20% - 30%
12-Hydroxy lithium Stearate: 1% - 5%
Looks like the moly content is >60% so it should be good to go.

sweet, I still have most of the tube. Downshifting is getting a little stiffer than when I first had the bike, so I'm thinking it might be time to do the rest of the splines soon. I can inspect the rear when I do, although I was hoping to hold out till winter. I've only brought it from 15K to 18K, but it had sat outside for a while unused...

+1 Guard Dog - utilizing Guard Dog on both of my K bikes. I had switched from a combination 50% Honda 60 Moly and 50% Wurther mix. :popcorm

+1 on Guard Dog. I lubed output shaft on 1992 K75 at 19k miles. (1st time) using factory recommended Starburags NB30. 6k miles later in I go again due to difficult down shifts and caution. Starburags was nearly undectable. I think it had passed its shelf life when sold to me.
Guard Dog was sticky and slippery. After buttoning up, I second guessed applied amount. May have been slightly generous. Lubed the shaft and the clutch carrier. So far so good. Clutch not slipping and down shifts anytime I choose😊.
I love my K75.
