In my opinion the K75S,K1100RS and the K1 are the best looking of the K-Bikes. That being said I've already owned a K100RS and currently own a '87 LT. The K100 always seemed a bit big for tossing around ! I think for me a K1 may not be in the cards but a K75S could be. Sometimes its nice to ride something a little lighter and more "flickable". My question is for those of you that have ridden them, what are your impressions of each? Is a K100 just a faster K75? Is the K1 all that different?

Strangely I find my K100RS 16v as nimble as my friend's K75,however tire choice & rear ride height are critical to achieve this.If you hit the sweet spot the extra weight is only an issue at walking speed or less.

So really there isn't much difference between the 75 and the 100.

Unless you plan on two-up riding...then the K100 is pretty much necessary...

Sounds like I should look at a different bike to fill the "middle weight" spot in my fleet.

So a K100 is not suited for two up riding?

The K100 IS - it is the K75 that lacks a bit of punch...

I mean it ain't a K1300S but my K75 cruises at 80 mph just fine with my fiancee and luggage. No problems getting up hills or merging into traffic
My dad talked about his trips to Colorado with my mom and luggage and they were riding airheads with Vetter Windjammers, and he still cruised 90 mph. From what I know a K75 has more hp than any production airhead, even like an R90S or an R100RT.

I respectfully disagree. I've been two up on my K75RT for hours on end, mountain canyon roads, in my mind there is nothing the 75 lacks. I haven't driven a 100 but my 75 will go two up on any road as fast as courage will allow.

I ride a K75s. I test drove an admittedly neglected K100 yesterday. More power, but more weight and vibration. a lot more vibration.

I tug a relatively lightweight hack with a k75 and have never had any issues with it being underpowered in the <75mph range...I don't see myself from going much faster than that with a sidecar rig. Good acceleration even with that big extra luggage on the side.
Not to mention the steering damper which isn't present on the k100.

I guess it depends on your expectations. I am very happy with my '86 K100 RT. She is much nimbler than my '04 Kawi Concours and 50 lbs. lighter. I think the wheelbase and engine center of gravity must have a lot to do with her nimbleness. As for power I would describe it as smooth, even and uneventful/ predictable. The Kawi (and probably all UJMs) have that livelier power band. Heinz (my Beemer) really is at home on the slab. She spins beautifully in the 4500 to 5000 range and is very smooth. I don't go faster than that. I have a somewhat clunky gearbox (I think it needs some work) but many comments have said that these trannies are a bucket of bolts. That would be my only knock on the bike but I think your gearbox is the same...or close.
My two cents.

I have owned three K75 motorcycles. My current K brick is a 1993 K75S, it is a very nice rider and serves me well, but like you The sixth gear was always needed and I find myself trying to go to sixth when I am in fifth gear, especially when I have been astrid my R1100S which has a 6 speed tranny. However, you must be teasing as the K75 never had a 6 speed along with all the other improvements you mention :). It would have been darn near perfect had it ever been so equipped!
Now, as to the K75 vs the K100 and K1100s; the potential buyer should ride both if possible then decide. The smoothness of the K75 is difficult to beat. Power? Not a lot of torque but as you wind it will really gallop. On a recent ride on the Colorado plains I was running one hundred mph for about 80 miles behind an R1100RT. It will cruise easily at these speeds even two up. It probably helps if the operator and passenger are normal sized people. Finally, although thd K75RTs are the best tourers, the K75S has the better suspension and handling.

Now if I just find someone to swap my '87 TLR200 Reflex straight across for a low miles K75S !
