Love my new to me k75s 1987 model Columbia silver... I'm leaning forward with my weight on the handlebars. I think some barracks will fix the fatigue. Questions---
Which bar back do you perfer?
Do you have to drill tap them all for trims to fit?
When it's all said n done am I going to ruin the handling of this magnificent sport tourer??
-
greetings shoebox1.1...
welcome to motobrick.com...
its this motobrickers opinion that the s motobrick oughtta be ridden with s handlebars...
just gotts to get it set up so you donts getts your weight on the grips... bar backs wont fix that... same weight just a little closer with bar backs...
getting your weight off the grips... is accomplished with proper butt placement on the seat and applying the master yoga technique (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=master+yoda+riding+position)...
some will say rt bars this and rt bars that... some will say lt bars this and lt bars that... some will say c bars this and c bars that... some will say k100 bars this and k100 bars that...
all i can say is those folks have enormous chicken strips and narry a dragged pegg in most cases...
flatlanding dosent much matter... butts if you wanna canyon race... its s bars... and the s is more of a canyon racer that a sport tourer...
butts if you must... these may have the threaded holes for the crash pad... butts doo your doo dillergence... (http://store.bobsbmw.com/product/classic-bar-bar-bax)

Before you go changing your bike, try changing your posture -- you can train yourself to lean forward without putting all your weight on your hands. Same as riding a bicycle with drop bars. After a short while of consciously using your back and abs to maintain a light pressure on your hands, you'll soon realize that you're doing that all the time without effort. And then you'll start to appreciate the riding position they designed at the factory. It's really good.

I'm so excited to hear these replies! Thank you! I don't want to change the bike!! It's perfect. It's me that needs to change and lose some weight too lol I found using my stomach muscles eases the weight off the hands. I will say this--- there's a lot more SPORT in this k75s than I gave credit for!
This thing handles great. I'll be scraping under doin's before I know it. What a machine!!! I've wanted a k bike for a long time and man was it worth the wait! Thanks brothers!!

-
Sorry I can't rotate the pics (from my phone). 67,900 miles. Well cared for. It's a love affair...❤️
-
prolly get a clutch o ring leak nosing it up like that... does it smoke when you start it...
j o
-
Lol no smoke just smiles on startup

Those handlebars look like they're tilted up too high.
How tall are you?
Tilt them down as far as you can before they hit the tank at full-left / full-right.
You'll also need to loosen and adjust the left switch & clutch lever and right switch & brake lever to fit the new bar angle.
-
I'm 5"9. Not terribly long in the arms. Do you mean turn them up? Or more down even more sport bike like?
-
Tilt them back towards your body and the fuel tank.
-
after rotating your photos im thinking those are not s bars... or you have them way too high like timtiorler noted...
the whole thing in this motobrickers opinion is the angle of the wrists... caint make sit up ergos lean forward and caint make lean forward ergos sit up as well as the oem motogeometry... some can... most caint...
if you are sit up like the rt or the lt then the high bar are good because your wrists and in natural alignment with the high grips...
if you are lean forward like the rs or the s... the bars gotta be down as far as they can go before your banjo hits the tank... then the angle of your wrists in in natural alignment with the grips... factor in weight over the pegs... ball of the foot on the pegs... and master yoda riding position... should be able to ride and ride and ride with no wrist or hand discomfort...
k75 with c bars... (https://www.google.com/search?q=k75s+with+c+bars&biw=1002&bih=444&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=X9yaVeC1KoGoogTsyafABA&ved=0CB0QsAQ)
k75 with s bars.. (https://www.google.com/search?q=k75s+with+c+bars&biw=1002&bih=444&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=X9yaVeC1KoGoogTsyafABA&ved=0CB0QsAQ#tbm=isch&q=k75s+with+s+bars).
both of my motobricks are as low as they will go... banjos 1/4" from fuel tank...
brick of the corn bars as low as they will go...

I'm pretty sure he has S bars. He's got the S dash and that would look whack with C bars.
-
Man I'm confused. Yall want me to turn them down even more? They point down now! Is there a master spline or "zero" which is factory setting? I'd like to see if I'm there. I don't think the bars are modified
-
Check out this pic
-
thats right... the angle of the grips is not natural...
take some 1/4 material and lay on your tank where the bars are gonna touch... carpet wood cardboard anything...
take your dash pad off... loosen up your 4 handlebar cynch bolts... loosen up your switchgear... rotate the bars down to where they contact the 1/4 material with switchgear in position for natural grip and lever placement... make sure your levers clear the fairing... tighten them up... remove the 1/4" material... carefully turn them right and turn them left making sure they dont touch the tank... make sure you gotts clearance for how you are gonna ride...
go for a ride... give it a chance... you may find it amazing... thats with your weight over the pegs and using the master yoda riding position... im thinking it gonna bee yeeeehaaaaa...
j o
-
Ok I'll try it. Stay tuned...
-
WTF is up with your camera? All your photos are 90 degrees whack.
Just hold the phone 90-degrees differently.
-
after rotating those last two photos i can clearly see now that those are s bars in the geezer configeration...
geezer configeration = flatlanding + breaking down to 30 for a 45mph posted corner... taking exits at 1/2 of posted speeds... and avoids the canyons... unless with a group of geezers... then target fixates and every corner is an experiment in cartwheel prevention and self preservation...
if that was my motobrick id if feel like my arms were straight our like i was sleep walking...
whack whack whack...

If you really want to ride with a more upright posture I've got some RT bars in the closet. You'd need new clutch, throttle and TPS cables though.
-
I wouldn't butcher this baby. I'd sell it and buy a C
-
i dont know anybody other than geezers who wouldnt wanna ride that moto with the ergos figgered out...
the bars... c or rt or whathaveyou bars aints butchering... its bastardizing...
every mototbricker of earth has had the same issues... and has bastardized their motobrick... seats and bars... at one time i had 6 motobrick seats... and i tried bar backs rox risers c bars k100 bars... nothing better that my stock bars...
the thing is you can ebay or mail order stuff to try... if it doesnt work you can still getts what you paid for it...
make it yours... never sell it...

Turning the bars down made it a new motorcycle! Fantastic handling. Wow. Fixed all my problems it seems
I'm almost kissing mirrors!
-
Just my two-cents.
The bars do appear tilted forward.
I have a K100rs which uses the same bars. I do a significant amount of touring. I've found that it takes until about afternoon of the second day before I can comfortably ride 100+ miles without stopping.
The other thing about these bars, they're kinda narrow. If you have broader shoulders, that can add to your discomfort. If I would change anything about the bars, it would be to widen them. Like the 1100 bars.

The master yoda stuff is working. I don't know if I'm doing right lol but I'm pushing down on the foot pegs
Bottom rear ward and relax grip. Feels really good thanks for all the help
-
hmm. I put barbacks [it came with them uninstalled]on . You guys have me thinking i ought to go back and give the original position another try. got some great twisty roads [with some steep drops] here.
-
I tried bar-backs on C-bars and then S-bars a while back and didn't like them.
The C-bars are definitely more comfortable for me but the S-bars are more fun. It's a trade-off. I'm sticking with the S-bars for a while. Probably forever. Beside getting my hands closer to the forks, the S-bars provide a better wrist angle which helps make them more comfortable than the C-bars in a way.
-
I'm on my bike right now at a pit stop The s bars turned down WITH the master yoda stuff is FUN. Tuck down to the tank kiss the mirrors and it feels like a sportbike my elbows are down by the tank close so that MAKES you take the weight off your hands
-
Try not to lean your weight on the bars, grip the tank with your legs and find a comfortable position. I changed my bars to a really low position and took about a week until my back strengthened itself for the new position.

took my bar backs off and turned the bars down. fun on a short ride. I'll let you know when i take a longer one this weekend.
-
I'm glad I saw this. I had heard people rave about how comfortable the same bars are on the wrists, but hadn't noticed that myself. I'm going to try this too.
-
I wouldn't mind trying some barracks just for fun. Anyone has an old pair to try let me know thx. The stock S bars are more fun but some more comfort would be nice too!
