Along the way through 3 POs the temp sensor in the water connector pipe was replaced on my 85 k100rt. It weeped coolant at higher rpms into the recessed area on top of the block. I could smell it but only saw it when the recessed area filled up enough so it could run off the left side when the bike was on the side stand. Usually the headers were hot so steam everywhere and frightened all the onlookers. But the liquid was only warm to the touch so clearly not a pressurized hot coolant leak. So I replaced the sensor. A month later same symptoms. Thinking I'd overtightened the sensor and cracked that standpipe, I got the part number off the drawing so I could order that part.
That's when I noticed the drawing showed a small gasket washer (A12x15, 5 AL) under the sensor. I knew the sensor I removed and the new sensor I installed did not include any washer. $1.83 at the BMW Car store and an hours work and no weepage!
I guess my reason for this post is to remind readers that POs may have not done things correctly which is a good reason to always check the manuals and other references.
Me and Bubba are going shrimpin' now.
