Hi All,
Bike is on the road. Gearbox making (what I'm told) is the usual kind of rattle off the start. She runs great, especially above 3,000 rpm and with load on the throttle. I did, however, start to notice the smell of fuel until I got up to speed. A little disconcerting...don't want this bike going up in flames after the work I've put into her!! I'm a little suspicious of the throttle body "bushing" since they appear to be original (bike is 1986 K100RT with 61,400 miles). Is it possible I'm getting some leakage there or would everything just be sucked into the cylinders at that point? I will remove the black engine covers to see what I can see. Has anyone sourced the clamps other than through BMW? Or is it not worth the bother? The engine misfires now and then, both at idle and when running at speed, although not during acceleration.
I'll leave it with the braintrust!

With potentially a little embarrassment I'll add an addendum to my post. I filled my fuel tank to the bloody brim just prior to noticing this smell. Given the cool gas temperature in the inground tank and the relatively warm ambient temperature plus building engine heat it may have been a case of the tank relieving itself. The level is decent now so I'll check it out on my next ride and report back....just in case anyone else is tempted to "top off" the tank. I believe this malpractice is even referenced in the manual!!

Yep, I did that this weekend riding down to TX. Put too much in and got the petrol smell for 1/2 an hour until i burned it off. Ah well, at least it as simple Kris.

The fuel smell issue seems to have abated. I got a little in a hard corner so maybe a little more venting. :falldown:
