Title: GIVI tail rack K75/K100
Post by: VelvetElvis666 on April 05, 2015, 01:31:04 PM
So, I bought a Fleabay givi rack like this one: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/givi-e180-e181-top-case-monokey-rack-bmw-k100-90-k75-k1100rs?utm_source=product&kwd=&kpid=760831&gclid=CjwKEAjwuoOpBRCSy6yQm66J1g8SJABrXW487aODTJ1RbviXxzjdeB6rtWnWETPUsD7q-vjETT60bhoCsXHw_wcB

However, it does not sit completely flush tot he body work. Since I am no metalsmith, I was thinking I could use a map gas torch and heat it up on the bends near the feet to get it to sit square. Is this a bad idea? Also for those of you who run tail boxes on your gen 1 k bikes, has anyone had any issues with the body work stressing and cracking?

Thanks!

I bought my K75RT with a Givi Maxia.  The mount fit perfectly and didn't cause any problems.

Have you contacted the seller?  Do you have any photos of the rack on your bike?

I bought my Givi rack used and no two feet lined up. A buddy and I had to heat & bend, then heat & bend, again & again. Then we hit it with a bit of black paint.

When you finally get it on, use lock tite on the bolts.

I have a 94 K75 with a GIVI on the tail -- I don't know how long it's been on the 71K bike but I have yet to see any stress cracks in the finish of the cowl or any other signs of distress. The installer did drill an extra stupid hole for it though -- no idea why -- one of these days I'm going to have to fill and paint that hole out.

Btw Chris -- I'm not the German grammar police but I can't help myself -- it should be 'der rote Backstein' not 'rotem'....but here in USA you're free to call it whatever the f**k you want!

Well, I've had two years of German. Unfortunately, it was from '66 to '68 when I was an Army brat living in Nuremberg & Illesheim, Germany in the 1st & 2nd grade - so today the only German language I know is to be able to count to ten. However, I have a buddy who is married to a nice German lady and she gave me the spelling. As I understand it, there are different dialects so it depends upon which area of Germany you are from. The Google translator recognizes both rote & rotem as acceptable - for whatever that is worth - I know software certainly isn't the authority.

It really doesn't matter to me, I just like my red brick!

Just mounted one on a K1100RS, I hated to deface the bike by drilling the holes, but it fit perfectly.
