Hi,
Just bought a Garmin Zumo 590LM and am going to hard wire the power supply to the bike using the cables that come with the Garmin. There are Ewe-tube videos showing how to wire it direct to the battery on a Honda and it looks like a fairly standard type job. My question is, do I wire it straight to the battery on my Kll00 LT or are there better places to wire it too - in which case, where? The Garmin will be sitting up on the fairing in front of the non-existant speakers and I plan to have the cables running up under the tank down to the battery compartment.
Cheers

Will it run off USB?
My Zumo does so I wired one of these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQ48FCY/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00GQ48FCY&linkCode=as2&tag=cinematographyco&linkId=OSKDGJACLSDTZHHJ) to the unused alarm connector in the relay box.

Unfortunately it doesn't run off a USB - it has 2 power cables, a red and black one that you crimp a connector to end of and wire to the battery or wherever. The thought of wiring straight to the battery terminals doesn't sit very well with me - especially as modern bikes don't have kick starters anymore!
cheers

Where are you thinking of mounting it?
I have my gps mounted to the upper fairing panel next to the map light, and connected the power to the map light. That way it is connected to switched power and not direct to the battery.

There is some spare power in the box of contacts and wires under the seat. Hardly any K bikes have the alarm system but there is a connector in the box for one. It has both switched and unswitched hot lines. Look for a connector not hooked up to anything.
