HI, name is Dave, don't currently own a "brick" but, as my FJR1300 Yammie is very costly on tyres/fuel/parts etc I'm considering a change. Especially so as my neighbour has a K1100LT which he wants to sell. The bike has a mechanical issue which I'd like to post on the tech forum here to see if this would be too expensive to fix. Forgot to mention I'm a mechanic by trade so any work needed would be done by me

Welcome.
When it comes to $ to fix one of these older BMW's, one of the main contributing issues to question is::: will you be doing your own wrenching? or will you be paying someone to do it for you.......
If you can turn your own wrenches, then repairs aren't too bad, still not "cheap" but still much less expensive.
