Title: Fork tube removal K75
Post by: ronbuell on October 25, 2014, 08:06:53 PM
The tripple tree on the K75 does not have a split on the outside, only 1 bolt on the inside top ab bottom.
Mine has been dropped and I'm want to remove the fork tubes and check for a bent tubes.
What is the normal method to remove these tubes from the tree?

They're split on the inside.  Just loosen the allen heads, tube slide right out.

When I loosened the allen bolts, tubes would not slide down.  I was running out of time and didn't try to remove the rubber cover on top.  Grabbing by hand to twist was useless. So was wrapping with strap wrench.
Sounds like maybe I need to remove the top tree........?

Support the bike from the center stand and with blocks under the oil pan.

Remove the front fender, brake calipers and wheel.

Loosen the four fork clamping bolts on the triple-tree; two upper and two lower.

The forks should slide out fairly easily.

If they're really stuck, I'd try a rubber mallet on the top where the plastic caps are. But be careful. Once they're loose, they'll drop down fast onto the floor.

if they are bent,  take off the front wheel, fender and fork brace and pull them out one at a time.

I was able to free up a stuck tube with a propane torch at the triple tree.

OK, thanks guys.  That's what I was thinking, they should just drop out.  Will try again with more gusto this time.
