So I went out for a little ride today to empty the fuel tank for removal for heated grip install. Cruising a loop I have cruised before on my Buell, crested a hill that bends sharply left and negative camber to the right. Same place I ran off with the Buell but was able to ride it out through the field and back to the road. The K is a lot bigger and the grass was a little wet, rear wheel went right out and low sided through the grass no bodily harm but the bike lost a mirror and the left engine crash bar and shift lever. was able to get bike back up on the road with the help of a young man driving by. At first the transmission seemed locked up, starter would only engage but not turn. after rocking it a little and working the shift lever was able to start with clutch pulled in. Made it back home shifting with the inside of my boot against the broken shift lever. stopped at home to open garage door and when I got back on the bike and pulled the clutch lever in the cable snapped. luckly I had a spare. Got the grip heaters installed and everything else looked over. I do believe I will be able to ride it to work in the morning.
Priority 1 new shift lever, any suggestions?
also rubber mounts for left side crash bars,
Mirror will probably be reengineered.
This thing is a beast to ride out a 40mph crash with no more damage than what I had.

You should be able to buy your broken parts from BMW still. It may have to be ordered, but still should be available.
Other options would be bike breakers, or make a post in the fs/wtb forum page and see if anyone has any laying around......

Glad you and your bike are pretty much ok.
-
Glad you're ok and the bike isn't toast. What model and year k is it? It's a good idea to include that info on your profile signature and post pics of the damage...mirrors for unfaired Ks are relatively easy to source...

My bike is an 88 K100 LT,
Need shift lever, left crash bar mounts, and crash bar if reasonable otherwise I will straighten and repaint.
Thanks All any parts help would be appreciated was able to ride to work shifting with the side of my boot.

I got two rubber mounts for that left side crash bar.
PM address and I'll send them tomorrow.

So you've binned 2 bikes at the same place....thinking you need to rethink the bend!... :2thumbup:
-
I am thinking I need to conquer that section of road.
-
Yeah, wow- watch that corner- while I hope I go out sideways one day- that bend wouldn't be the one I was thinking of. I also have some mounts for a crash bar kicking around if Richard has any trouble finding his. I'm sure his garage is more organized than
Mine- so I am sure it's all good. You mentioned the buell, how does that handle compared to the K? I guess I imagine the K's center of gravity would be higher- and longer. Probably lucky no high side

The buell weight 400 pounds vs 600 for the K. When the rear hit the wet grass it was over for the rear tire traction. My wife said to stay away from there but what does she know?
I still need 1 more mount Richard sent me 2, what a great guy, he refused any payment but he is going on the xmas card list.
