Hello Everyone,
Greetings for Northern Ca. I picked up my first K bike a couple months, much in need of some TLC but the price was right. Cannot believe what a great bike this is, it's a wonder I never heard about them sooner. It's a downright beautiful thing.
I've been lurking here for a while now and have found the guys on this forum to be very friendly and helpful. It's been a great help already on the tech stuff.
I've gotten the majors out of the way- spline lube, TB sync, oil change, breather hose, etc.
I fabbed brackets to mount some Pelican cases, temp installed a TrailTech speedo, (original not working since the PO wrecked the bike) and have ordered a Plexistar 2 windshield. I plan to make a custom fiberglass dash to hold the digital speedo and indicator lights. Waiting of the arrival of the windshield to determine space allowed.
Any helpful hints, suggestions or snide remarks are welcome. Hope I'm not being too "unkosher" by not using the original speedo and going digital :nono :dunno

Welcome.

Ok, here's a few I have already, showing the Pelicans, the TailTech speedo and a preliminary shape and size for the new dash. I'd like to put the ignition switch in the where the cross line is and indicator lights to the sides below the speedo.

go over to bmwmoa's forum to get ostracized for for using non factory parts :hehehe My thoughts are if it works go with it. Ride it like you stole it, it ain't gonna break!

Like the work with the Pelican cases. Can't see from the pics what the exhaust clearance is like - any problems there?
-
Unless you have a 'real' fairing to hide them, the factory clocks look like something you stole from the Bismarck in terms of size...
Given the cost of the bike originally, I don't know why they didn't have an 'unfaired' small clock option anyway. I guess function and parts commonality came before form.
From what I've seen, the overriding attitude here is along the lines of "it's your bike, do what you like with it." And it also seems that people are willing to help whatever heathen ideas you might cook up :neener:

Hello, Glacial. The clearance is fairly close but there seems to be no heat transferred to the plastic. I would assume that it would be more likely to do so if it were idling for a long time without wind.
Thanks for the heads up, Chaos. I'll just stick around here then :)
pdg, I'm glad to hear that, I keep the heathen idea factory going 24/7 :hehehe

I have a Plexistar 2 Windshield on my K75...the bike has been modified and has a K100 standard headlight surround...I had to cut out a good bit of the Plexiglas where it fits over the headlamp and surround...not a biggie, but took a few hours work....If your bike is a standard (naked) K75 it should fit without modification.. Only saying.
Very impressive work on your bags and other stuff...

I have a plexistar 2 on my Ural, great winter shield. Had to trim it to get it to fit the way I liked, used a belt sander, worked like a charm!

Excellent news, thanks Bokobob and Chaos. I wasn't sure how well it would work. Saw that it was listed for these but some reviews on various sites indicated that some people had difficulty. Thought I was still taking a gamble on it.
