Title: oil level sight glass
Post by: grant71 on September 09, 2014, 12:09:13 PM
hello everybody.  The sight glass on my 87 K100 RS has become opaque. is there a way to determine my sump oil level using say a wire inserted in the oil filler aperture? If so, what would be the high and low level marks in inches from opening . thanks

The best way is to drain the oil and measure the quantity.

Then pop in a new Oil Level Indicator #11 11 8523906 and refill with new oil.

+1   Problem with a coat hanger dipstick is there is no direct route to the sump from the oil fill hole.

Or get down there it's a flashlight...mine's pretty dark too but I can see the level if I shine a light.

And I assume you know that the glass can be replaced with new?

Uh...yeh-uh. I'll get around to it but in the meantime the flashlight does the job.
