Title: Key Codes
Post by: TaosBob101 on September 03, 2014, 11:21:23 PM
Can anybody tell me on how one can get a key code for a K bike. Do you have to go back to BMW to see who the first owner was and if he "registered it " with BMW ? I have a bit of a problem that has occurred.

All you need is the VIN and proof that you are the correct owner.

Lost my keys coming back from Minn w/ a new to me 95 K75S 11k miles....the family was with me, I was about a 100 miles south of Minneapolis when I looked for them... The wife said my face went white !The former owner looked around where we had been. I torn the trailer and truck apart when I had my first stop.
BMW of Denver was of no help yesterday, but Foothills BMW here in Denver was...I think I have to keys coming based on the vin...as mentioned above. We shall see...I'm just very new to the K Bike world. The bike is nice and I'll post it on the correct sub-form here. After I get to ride it!  :2thumbup: The weather was too bad up in Minn and I wanted to get start home as soon as I had it loaded . I know it runs , when we put it on the trailer.
I was going to keep quiet about this purchase until I had it running...put the cat's out of the bag know...

Edit and update: Has anybody here ,ever ordered a factory key off their VIN ? And how long did it take to get it ? Three weeks as of  Sep 25. The waiting is killing me . Working on the hard bag key issue as well. Read about a few guys ordering keys for their newer oilheads. But no K-bike stories I know of.
  I've polished my 75 three times already....waiting.

TaosBob so how long did it take, are we still waiting?   Were the replacement keys using the VIN or Key Code a match?   I'd be curious to see how this worked out -  and tie-up a dangling thread....

I bought for my K75, a kit of 6 OEM lock cylinders and keys for the side boxes from BMW--either Max or Bob's.
