My fan is often running when I get to my destination. I am always torn as to whether I should let it run until my bike has cooled or just shut her off. I usually give it 15-30 seconds and turn my bike off.
-
How do you drive your car. Do you idle it when you get to your destination.
Don't think it really make that much difference either way.

I drive a saab 9000. Saab recommends a 30 second turbo cool down before switching off.

when i getts to my destination i idle it till my fan turns on... then i wait for it to turn off...
on a hot day it will not turn off sitting still at idle... so i often find myself at my destination without turning off the moto at all the entire time cause the fan has not turned off...
really messes with my fuel mileage per tank...
what i was wondering is... when riding and my fan comes on should i stop and idle it till the fan turns off... then continue to my destination...
my fan has caused an enormous amount of stress over the years... its really a f-ed up situation... so much so i gotts hooked on weed trying to make it just go away... sad butts true...
im on my second sallsage and weed bizkit this morning because of this thread...

Without telling us what type of commute you have. (Traffic, City, Highway Stop & Go) I'd would have to guess thatI you're riding includes a lot of sitting in city traffic or slow speed stop and go driving. This will cause the temperature will increase and the fan will run. Since, I believe, you are not running a turbo'd K-bike, it doesn't matter if you let the thing run until the fan turns off or if you just turn it off. BMW K-bike motors are about as close to a standard car motor as you can get. Basically they are a car motor and can and will take a whole lot more use and abuse than pretty much any other m/c out there. Unlike a turbo Saab that could, on the rare occasion, be stubborn if you don't let the turbo wind down, a normally aspirated K doesn't care.
You may consider giving the radiator a good cleaning to ensure optimum airflow and heat transfer. If the antifreeze is old, replace and if it really bugs you add a manual fan switch (tapped off a keyed power source).

The running fan is Germany's way of telling you it's too hot to be riding a motorcycle. Go for a swim.

I've never heard my fan run at all, even when riding in the snow............
Maybe it's broken.
