Today, I took her out for a spin and this time got caught in some heavy traffic.
I noticed that the temperature gauge needle went unnervingly close to the red zone a couple of times, before dropping back to just below the half way mark when I got moving again

Totally normal....nice bike....it might even hit the red before the fan comes on in stop and go traffic. The one to worry about is the warning light.

That's a relief.
Considering how popular these bikes are in the UK, I was surprised it took me so long to find a nice one.
My only criticism is the stupid little top box.
I read somewhere that BMW designed them this way so people didn't overload the rear.
Evidently, this was causing stability issues.

Well you could always look for a box and brackets off of an LT if you are wanting a larger one.

BTW, Nice looking bike. I like the silk blue as well as the black/silver SE scheme.

The cooling fans often fail on these bikes - I had to replace mine on my K1100LT. Adding a fan override is a useful mod and pretty easy to do if you've any skills.

Likewise on the nice bike and wishing you health to enjoy.
