Title: K1100LT Rear Disc Variable Thickness
Post by: gladstone on July 28, 2014, 05:46:25 PM
Hi, can you get the standard discs skimmed? I have a nearly new (old stock) disc which is 4.94mm in most places but 'bulges' to 4.98mm in one place. Causes a low speed pulsing which makes slow control (all I used the rear brake for) impossible.

I can't believe the price of new discs so it would be great to hear if they can be skimmed.

Cheers

I would think that a good machine shop should be able to turn on a lathe for you.

The discs have a minimum thickness stamped on them: for some reason the rears I've got have the figure in Imperial, 0.18"
the fronts are 4.5mm min thickness. I think you could skim them to true them up, but I'd stick to the specified figures within 10%....brakes are really a bit important....here in England the yearly Mot test will fail a bike if the tester notices: many testers don't bother  :yow
