Title: Occluded engine oil glass
Post by: KENDOG on July 20, 2014, 04:06:43 AM
Is there any other way to check engine oil level on an 87 K75S if the inspection glass is hard to see through?

That little window is replaceable.
BMW part # 11 11 8 523 906  about $35us for the kit.

If you don't have/want to replace it, I remember I could "just" see it with the oil pan removed.

I was thinking about hooking several WD-40 type spray straws together and I think I could just reach one of the openings and give it a blast.

This was while I had the oil pan open on a new (to me) bike and I wanted to get a look at what type of scary crud might be there (Lucky me, it was very clean).  I forgot to blast it (it was only slightly crudded up) and after several oil changes, it's cleaned up a bit.

Easy to replace, or if you remove the oil pan you can probably clean it with Q-tips.

You can remove it without pulling anything off of the engine. It's a ten minute job.
