I have a ‘95 K1100LT. While freeway cruising, engine suddenly died – as if the engine kill off/on switch mounted on the right handgrip had been flipped to off. Engine cranks over just fine, but won’t run. No sputtering, no misfires; rather, its like the handle-mounted kill switch is turned to off. Electrics otherwise seem normal.
Fuse #1 in the fuse box is blown. When replaced w/ new fuse, #1 fuse blows out upon turning on the ignition. Also, with ignition turned on I do NOT hear the fuel pump come on.
In checking the wiring diagram I see that fuse #1 is in the loop for the side-stand switch. Also, the side-stand switch is wired directly to the fuel pump relay. As you know, when down the side-stand kills the engine if running, & prevents the engine from starting. Seems to me the side stand switch, when open (closed?) kills the engine via the fuel pump relay. So maybe my problem is a shorted out side-stand switch (part #61311459959).
My questions: Has anyone experienced a similar problem & if so, what was the cause? Am I right in suspecting a bad side-stand switch? Or should I be looking elsewhere?

greetings dwc...
welcome to motobrick.com...
this may become your #1 resource... its for k100 butts you getts the idear for k1100... click here... (http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/download/bike-wont-start1.htm)
just about everything can be found in the lieberry... click here... (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=666.0)
in the event of electrical whackness the first thing i do is the backspin on the starter... click here... (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=5678.0)
when discussing whack its important to have moto on center stand with side stand up and side stand switch verified as working or bypassed in neutral ignition key off kill switch in middle position...
then its a process of elimination... ignition key on... what do you see (lights turn signals) and hear (horn)... clutch switch ignition switch kill switch fuse starter grounds battery connections and so on...
how old is the battery... how long have you had the moto... what and when was the last work done on it... are all the hots and the grounds tight...
does that fuse blow with the motronic disconnected... does that fuse blow with the 4 pin undertank connector disconnected... when you turn the key on what lights up... does that fuse blow immediately when you turn the key on with the kill switch off or the kill switch on or both...
i would bypass the side stand switch... eliminate that first...
we just needs more info...

Fuse #1 protects : Power to the BMU relay, heated grips, instruments, front and rear brake lamp switches.
Could be a idea to check these things first.
.....not unusual: RHS footrest bridge have been removed, when reassembling the brake light switch
wire become trapped between the gearbox and the footrest bridge and shorts to ground.

Nice collection, Johnny............. :yes
I would guess it's two different problems which have occured at the same time.
