Title: RAM shock group buy
Post by: ljjohns on July 11, 2014, 07:26:17 PM
On the K11OG forum, Beachcomber has raised the possibility of another group buy for his RAM shocks; the first one was several years ago.

I purchased one for my K75; the price was very reasonable and the best part was that it is rebuildable.

Since I've been unable to ride for the last eighteen months and may not be able to in the future, I'm not willing to take the lead in organizing a group buy, but I do have two K11LTs that I'm still trying to bring up to a high standard.

Here's the link to his post on K11OG:  http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12308&highlight= (http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12308&highlight=)

Thanx for the headsup on this forum Larry  ...................... another place to play !!  :2thumbup:

I'll post up details and specs for those interested - but here's the deal. I'm retired now [ design / manufacture of replica sports cars - Jag, Porsche, Cobra ], but still keep my hand in doing consultancy design work for old industry pals. One of those pals manufactures Jag C and D types - and coincidentally has a range of alloy bodied shox for road and race use [ Cobras and Jags ].

When I retired I got back into my liflong hobby of bikes - and specifically Kays and Airheads. Long story short - when I needed a quality shock for my Kays that wasn't going to cost the National debt, I liaised with my pal at Realm Engineering [ www.realmengineering.com (http://www.realmengineering.com) ] to develop one of his race units for my Kays - that was 6 years and 650 shox ago ! Along the way I developed a complimentary progressive front fork spring - oh yes and some 8mm hi-po plug leads !

We've also developed a range of twinshox - suitable for most Japanese, Italian, German Twin shock bikes - oh yes - and H-D.

One of our customers [ Ben Kingham ] won the B.E.A.R.S. series championship outright in 2013 using our shox, springs and leads.

Check out www.ramshox.com (http://www.ramshox.com). for detailed specs of shox.

Anyway - as to prices.

You'll automatically get a 10% discount as forum members, and as with the K11OG and Flying Brick group buys, we're happy to arrange  bulk shipping to a US drop ship address for individual forwarding.

As US citizens - you also escape our 20% VAT [tax] !!

so

K75,100,1100,K1 shocker kit ................£202.50 [nett]
Progressive fork springs [ inc. seals ] ....£  65.00     "
K75 8mm Hi-Po leads [ Black / Red ] .....£  39.00 set
4 cyl Kays all ...................................£  41.00 set

So that makes $347.46 per unit plus (bulk Intl shipping / number of participants) plus US shipping from forwarder to final destination?

Might be a good deal but I'm going to have to sit this one out -- maybe next time.

I think you misunderstood his pricing post....

Each of the pieces he listed are separate items, that are available thru the Realm company that he help develop. You don't have to buy everything.
The rear shock complete, would be in the $250(usd) range(inc disc +s/h) by itself.

I think Motorhobo got it right.  202 pounds sterling is about $347 US, less 10% is $312 plus shipping.  this is a good deal on a really nice shock.  I put one on my K75 last summer.

We sent shox to the Moderator for the DTT forum [ Canada ] - the freight was about 15% dearer than to the US [ ?? ].

Just to absolutely clear, the price is £202 STERLING POUNDS for 1 x shock kit somplete with new fittings and C spanner.  To put that into perspective - the same unit in the UK with vat is £242.40.

The specifications of the shox are extremely high, with only the best parts used - DESIGNED, DEVELOPED AND MADE ENTIRELY IN THE UK - NO FAR EAST IMPORTS HERE. 2 year no quibble guarantee and fully rebuildable by competent home mechanic.

We're happy to ship US or Canada.

I don't doubt it's it's a great shock...what I'm not too sure of is whether it fits my budget right now or whether I'll try to get by another year on the aging Progressive 412. So it would be helpful to know exactly what the cost, including shipping, in USD, would be, including any discounts. Otherwise, it's the cat in the bag.

I did the conversion of pounds sterling and came up with $347 plus intl bulk plus forwarded shipping. Roninvt tcame up with $312 plus bulk intl plus forwarded shipping.

Bottom line -- no offense to anyone -- quality is not the issue -- it's knowing exactly what I'm getting into financially before I decide whether I'm in a position to bite the bullet. That means the total approximate cost within $10 including all shipping charges. The cost has to be guaranteed.

I have a RAM on my K100RS 16v, bought it last year and love it. I wish that I had asked for that discount and I also wish that I had bought a slightly shorter one (short legs).
