Hi All
So I now own a K75S - 1993 model. Generally happy apart from the low seat which I instantly changed for the standard version.
One issue - the headlamp is truly awful. And everyone I talk to says they are all the same. Beam pattern is complete rubbish, poor light output.
So I can put a modern Osram or Phillips high brightness bulb in to get a brighter splodge on the road Or add a couple of spotlights.
However. It looks to me like a standard Automotive 200mm rectangular unit so does anyone know if I can fit a different unit - ie a Hella for instance?

If anyone has a better option, please chime in but without the relay my understanding is you can risk frying some of your wiring.

Eastern beaver will sell you a headlight relay wiring harness all set for install. I put it on my bike and it is first class hardware and super service. Just google eastern beaver and email him the bike make and model.. You will be happy.

I know what you mean about the headlight and I will be upgrading my bulb in the not-so-distant future.
The Osram Rallye H4 bulb (http://Osram Rallye H4 bulb) suggested by JO is an excellent choice !! :yes
I had the H7 version previously on my 2009 R1200RT and it made one helluva difference - even on low beam :yow
My night vision sucks and the Osrams certainly made up for my human deficiencies - get one, you won't regret it.....

Thanks guys - Most of this adds up to - Brighter light - Which would undoubtedly help. I am happy to make up a relay operated system- That wouldn't stretch my competence, but I'm still left with an awful beam pattern. Going to an autojumble next week - will look for an alternative 200mm unit to try - Also getting in touch with Hella.
Will keep you posted.

I'm not sure what my bike has as it's a kind of "put together" headlight and mini fairing. But the headlight is an E-code, which is European and is vastly superior to any DOT headlight.
I have a set of E-codes on my Jeep and I would like to find a set for my Jetta, but they are big $.
The E-codes feature a prominent horizontal cut off with a flare up and to the right (to illuminate road signs). They are properly designed to put the light where you need it. You can run hot bulbs (90w100w) without blinding oncoming traffic, and they are just better in every way.
If you run a hot bulb you will have to upgrade to a relay harness as the stock wiring is not robust enough to handle that kind of load. And generally a harness will increase voltage at the bulb on a stock system which should give brighter light. So even a stock system can benefit from a harness set up.
I make up relay harnesses for everything too. Pretty easy and you can use all of the stock switches and stuff to trigger the harness. Also replace the hokey headlight socket with a hi-temp unit from the autoparts store.

Do the relay mod then get a high wattage H4 bulb (80-100w or something like that). Don't for get to add fuses.
