Reminds me of my juice from a few months back.. I changed the oil but haven't really checked up on the new one yet.

Water got into my Ural's gearbox and the oil came out looking like a runny vanilla milkshake.  Caught it soon enough, no harm done.

I had the same stuff in a bsa Gearbox... Took three or four changes to get it out.

Nice. I don't feel so bad. Maybe I'll change all fluids to olive oil and see what happens.

When things become less chaotic I'll change it again. For $12 it is at least a cheap deal. My transmission doesn't seem right. but who knows. It's a 22 year old machine and possibly not as far from normal as I am thinking. I don't like the 1st to 2nd shift and there is an odd whirring noise at slow speeds. But could be from any of 200 other sources.

What type of noise/vibration do bad alternator bushings cause. Seem easy to replace but I'm not sure what part of the problem(s) they may be. Is the noise present at all times? Vibration at slow and high speeds?  thanks

Zampano -- maybe it's time to let a longtime motobricker ride your brick. Sounds like you're very attuned to the acoustical thing which is very good, but it can be un-good if you don't know what normal is. One can make oneself crazy that way. There are a lot of motobrickerz out your way. Maybe one of them would give yours a spin...or you could go visit Johnny and get your brick back with half the tires missing.

I'd be glad to do it except for the 3000mi day ride from there to here... I'm not a proficient motobricker but at least I know after 90k miles what normal sounds like.

I agree. Haven't found anyone yet. I'd like to set the throttle bodies with an actual carbtune, to compare to my contraption, so maybe that will be the time.

When I needed a front tire (I had just got the bike) I brought it to the dealer, paid an extra $40, but figured they could give it a once over. First bike, so I wanted to make sure nothing would kill me. They said it was in ok shape. No other advice or warnings. Then while I have the bike I stop by dave campbell's, who is reknowned here as a great motorcycle mechanic. People don't have an inner drive to do something well, they only move a muscle for money. It's the way of the world I guess. He said the bike would die any day, and that was 18 months ago.

It was also at the dealer in escondido and they were pretty good. Told me a lot of stuff to watch out for, even though they knew I was not going to go ahead and have them do it. But at least they said, "don't go too far from home"

Bear in mind none of these people mentioned the fuel pump damper.

But don't get me wrong, this doesn't drive me bonkers. It's just my nature to get things right. It's a curse. I should probably just become a mechanic. ha. I'm happy as long as it's running from my apt to in n out burger. And I've already conceded this machine is never going to be up to snuff. If it gets there, fine, but I'm not holding that as a goal. I've had saabs with 260,000 miles that were tight as a drum at 130 mph.

This bike is for the moment just a fun hobby and transportation. It would require a full tear down and too much dough. Fun to do but not worth the cost. Motorcycles are odd b/c they're so easy to work on yet you pay crazy rates for repairs/parts. Thankfully I don't have a harley!!

This guy gets pretty good write ups -- I'd go visit him if it weren't for the 3000mi day ride.

Where the hell are all the old school wrenches that worked at BMW service 15 years ago? Don't tell me they all got real jobs. I know at least one in DC area that has his own unadvertised shop.

Any metal shavings on the drain plug or just the water contaminated gear oil?  The drive oil in my Mercruiser looked like that when a seal failed on the propeller shaft. 

Think I'd go with Mobil1 with Guard Dog Moly in the trans and FD.

I am in Hermosa Beach.  We could meet up some weekend.  Of course I am no BMW expert, have only owned one since October.  And I have never ridden a K75.  Maybe I wouldn't be any help after all ;-)

thanks. I have a friend that lives near Lior's place. I'll check him out. Who knows what happened to mechanics. Dealers and newer machines drove up the pricepoints, and the wrenches just settled in 15% below that level. Rising tide phenomenon. Can't blame them but still is frustrating for the jobless fools like myself.

SD reminds me of DC. Way overpopulated, too many shallow, materialistic types, not much of a blue collar contingent; but still nice at the same time.

I went to med-school there. One year residency then lost the whole shebang due to an injury and moving home to be with my mom while she battled cancer. If those wrenches found real jobs I wish I knew why I can't. ha! It's not the America of 1910-1960s anymore; that I know for certain.

There were some. They were not solid, looked spikey then smeared/dissolved between fingers. Not sure how normal that is. I did use mobil 1 (75-w90) but have not added the guard dog moly yet (does anyone sell that or do i need to order from their site?)

Going back to the original picture,the "effluent" may not be too bad.Rubbing between thumb & forefinger gives crude indication of oil state:any feeling of grittiness would be a cause of concern.Personally I would put it through a fine strainer or cloth to see what crap was in it.Unfortunately the detergents/additives in modern oils keep crap in suspension & it don't take a lot of moisture to give that look.A K bike gearbox is a little different to use compared to Jap bikes I have owned so if you can meet another motobricker & compare might be your best bet

It's san diego. "america's finest city" ...just ask one of the "bros" in their jacked up F350 super duty. But don't say hi to his girlfriend or it's MMA time.. ha! Sleeve tattoos and flat brimmed hats.

I shouldn't rip on san diego so much, it's just too easy. It's a very nice city. I think it was much more enjoyable when it was populated by old surfer-minded types.
