Title: 150 rear tior?
Post by: jacksdad1963 on April 27, 2014, 08:00:13 PM
I've been asking about fitting a wider rear wheel, but I've got a new option: can I fit a 150 tyre to the standard 2.5" wide wheel? I'm not too bothered about the width, its just that I can get a Battlax BT023 radial tyre in that size, to match the front
I had an Avon Azaro 140 on before but its just got punctured, so I'd like to get a matched pair

From previous posts yes you can . Hard to get on I understand. I intend to put a Michelin Anakee on my 1100LT in a couple of weeks...

Cheers for that  :2thumbup:

I had Anakee 2's on my Triumph Tiger, superb wet/dry tyres and pretty good off road, good choice!

Now fitted with matching Battlax BT023's

110 standard front and 150/70/17 rear: the rear was a little bit reluctant to go on the 3.0" rim, but we managed ok, tyre is still 150mm wide so not deformed one bit, fitted back on bike with ease, plenty of room, didn't need to deflate tyre either....and the ride is now like a new bike  :2thumbup:
Yet to try them in the rain, but I gaurantee it won't be many days before I do a wet weather ride!

Well, soon found the rain: feels amazing in the wet as well, i grew up riding on 1980's tyres....these radials are just superb! The grip is hardly different on wet roads, hardly a twitch from either tyre, along with the weather protection from the K1100 fairing...its opened up a new world of wet weather riding for me, almost a pleasure now! :2thumbup:

Jacksdad,  When you say "a bit reluctant", were you trying to fit the tire by hand using irons?  If you were to have used a tire machine, would you have had the same reluctance do you think?

That was using a tyre machine! YouŽd never get it on with tyre levers/irons!
Partly due to the Battlax tyres being made of very stiff rubber, my mate who owns the bike shop says they are one of the hardest makes to fit. It took both of us a load of effort to get it to go on, I had all of my 13 stone pressing down on the bead to keep it under the machine bit that folds it inside the wheel rim! But, once on and inflated its perfect, the tyre profile is spot on. The BMW rim is really at the limit of whats recommended, width wise, hence the struggle...
