Title: Fuel pump noise
Post by: MEL on April 21, 2014, 09:06:23 AM
Well I have been riding the K1100 LT the last couple of weeks as much as weather here will allow. My fuel gauge works but is way off on the fuel level. I have been riding by the odometer which is standard for me anuyway. I did notice the other day I started hearing a squeaking type noise wheen the fuel level got low...This was the lowest I had ran the bike. Took 4.7 gallons to fill it up. has anyone else experienced this type of thing? I am taking it to New hampshire in June and if it needs replaced i want to not do it in a Hotel parking lot... :dunno

My fuel mileage is not very good in my mind about 38 or so but I can live with that. Got this last falll and have opnly had the chance to put about 1700 miles on it and am still learning the bike.

Thanks
Mike

That's normal: they make noise, and the fuel dampens the noise.

Had hoped that was the case...

Thanks wmax

I've noticed that as well: as my gauge/lights don't work I use it as a warning buzzer!
Simple way to tell if its 'just' pump noise is to lean the bike to the left or put it on side stand with the engine running...it'll stop  :2thumbup:

The noise is quite normal.  Mine gets louder and the tank warmer as the fuel level decreases.  Next time your tank is low, check if the fuel level sensor arm is incorrectly bent.  I adjusted mine and now I get a low fuel light  when I should and my gauge is pretty close.

Good tip Keith!
My fuel gauge doesn't work, I'll try bending the arm over as you say: got to be worth a try
Specially as the bike had a new fuel pump fitted just before I bought it  :2thumbup:
