Title: Clutch assembly

The clymer manual discusses assembling clutch with balance marks 120 degrees apart to balance the assembly.  And when pulling out old clutch pack to paint it just in case so one can align.

I am replacing the clutch components therefore what are the marks to look for to reassemble 120 degrees apart? 

I am sure I will have a question on replacing the engine seal when I get to putting the clutch housing

Maybe some with more experience than me will weight in here, but mine had white paint marks on the hub and clutch.  Then the rear seal is a whole other adventure.

I checked on ibmwr.org and there's no tech article there. You might want to try searching on bmwmoa.org -- I seem to remember finding something more detailed but I can't remember exactly what the source was.

If you mark the parts when you take them out and then put the new parts back in the same orientation, wouldn't that work? The parts have stamped numbers on them with which you can match new and old. There's also supposed to be a depression or indent of some kind but I was never able to find it. I just slathered some paint on there and to be honest I'm still not sure I got it right. I don't feel any strange vibration so maybe I got lucky.

The plates themselves should have been balanced separately at the factory. I've put the plates back together in all three 120* configurations and never had any vibrations.

Mass producing them in balanced pairs doesn't seem very efficient... YMMV
