Hi all,
On Friday I changed the trans oil on my K1100RS. The oil that came out looked, felt, and smelled like ATF. Was this correct? I used Mobil 1 75w-140 synthetic gear oil.
Thanks.

Manual say 80w90 on a conventional oil. The Mobile 1 you put in should be just fine. Thats what I plan to use my next change.
I wonder if some general repair place did the last change on your bike and just didnt use what it calls for?
Some manual transmissions do use ATF but not typically recommended for BMW bikes that I am aware of. Ive known people to use ATF in cold climates with sub 0 temps in place of gear oils but I think what you put in is the better option.

Mobil1 is fine. If you're really concerned, order some Guard Dog Moly for transmissions with synthetic lube and add it to the trans and the final drive. I'm guessing you also changed the final drive oil too.
Unless you felt or saw shavings or bits of metal (more than a few) in the gear lube or on the magnetic drain plug, you're good.

Thanks guys. The shifts feel better with the new oil.
I have not changed the final drive because I was waiting to pull it and lube the drive shaft splines. My bike has 22k miles.

you mean like this...
104 thousand total miles on this fd... amsoil till 50k... mobile 1 since... new every approx 20 thousand... 18 thousand on the last final drive oil change b4 bearing failure...
