Can't judge the actual size but there are three springs on the stands of a similar shape. 2 on the center on on the side and I think the older bikes had another spring that had something to do with the auto stand retract with the clutch feature.

I think the spring looks to short relative to the diameter of the coil, to belong to one of the stands.
I would rather guess that it is the return spring for the rear master cylinder.

That was my guess, but I can't discover where it hooks to. Looks like number 9 in this drawing: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0572&mospid=51745&btnr=34_0620&hg=34&fg=31 (http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0572&mospid=51745&btnr=34_0620&hg=34&fg=31) but I don't find number 8 in real life, much less the un-numbered wuzzit the other end goes round.
