Title: TCX AIRTECH XCR BOOTS REVIEW
Post by: mystic red on May 28, 2011, 03:07:21 PM
I purchased a pair of these boots about a month ago and have ridden them in 35dg to 70dg weather. I'll update this review when it gets hot or I gets the chance to ride them in the rain. ::) Can't wait. But it'll happen.

My first impression was the the fit was true to size. Fits a tiny bit loose with cotton socks with just enough room for merino wool.
These are not walking/hiking boots. Some of the reviews I read overstated how comfortable they are to walk in and they might be, for riding boots. They will get you around in reasonable comfort when you get off your bike but I wouldn't wear them at the office like one reviewer said he did.

These are fully vented, waterproof boots and they do let some air in but not like a pair of running shoes. They also offer much more ankle protection than running shoes without losing the flexibility needed to run the foot controls on your bike. Here's a link (http://www.tcxboots.com/usa/) to their site and you can read the techno stuff for yourself.

At 35dg my feet were comfortable with cotton athletic socks although I only rode 32 miles to work. I would go with something more high tech if I was doing a longer ride or if it was any cooler than that.
My only 70dg ride was coming home from work and I could feel the air coming through the mesh areas of the boot. Very comfortable at that temp but is there anything sweeter than a 70dg ride? 8)

The other thing I noticed is the sole is very sticky when I plant it at a stop. Surprisingly sticky. I had to check them out again when I took them off. They don't look all that special but traction is impressive. I would buy them again just for this feature!

These boots have a side zipper covered by a Velcro sealed flap. The zipper pull is double sided Velcro so there is no chance of the zipper coming down on it's own.

My only complaint so far about this boot is that the soft leather next to the zipper catches in the zipper on the right boot only and it catches a lot. I bet this is just quirk of my particular pair so a pox on the boot gods.

I bought them here (http://www.amazon.com/TCX-Boots-AIRTECH-BOOT-BLACK/dp/B0024O6W1Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306606063&sr=8-1) for $225. I missed a closeout at MotorcycleGear (http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/closeouts/boots/) on last years model for $99. They went quick.

Updates forthcoming......
