Title: Just wanted to point out something about everyone's crankcase breather hose.
Post by: Oliver on October 07, 2013, 11:35:19 AM
THe crankcase breather hose on k bikes cracks easy. I noticed a small crack about a month ago threw some tape on it and ordered a new one from beemerboneyard. The bike ran like it always had (low gas mileage at high revs, slow pick up, bad idle) up until I received the package, I replaced it and it only took me 5 minutes and now my bike is like new. Its hard to describe how smooth everything feels now, I don't have to keep the idle enricher on for two miles, Ive been on the same tank of gas for more than a week now and the red light still hasn't come on, and driving at high speeds and shifting up feels solid and quick.

Everyone should check this hose and make sure there are no cracks anywhere, if you see a bit of grime around it, odds are its cracked. However lucky for you that means when you replace the 15 dollar item you're bike will drive better than it ever has.

Just some info,
cheers

The K75 and K100 pre 90 list BMW Part number 11 15 1 460 480 (on sale for 9.95 at beemer boneyard)

The K1100 breather hose is 11 15 1 461 835 and lists K1, 91-91 K100RS and the K1100.

Anybody know whats different? The price is $25 verses the special at Beemerboneyard of $9.95 for the older

The two hoses is quite different, the one for the 4V models is a lot longer.
On the 2V's it's just a short stub that connects to the plenum chamber.
On the 4V's it connects to a cyclonic oil separator inside the upper half of the airfilter housing.

I changed mine one or maybe two years ago (maintenance kit from the boneyard), and just noticed it's already starting to crack again..  :dunno2:

The beemerboneyard hose for early K's is thinner and some have had early failures.  I got one about 3 years ago and it is still fine.  Just a heads up.
