Any way to verify proper levels by measuring from edge of fill hole?
Have non-original shock on it and the stock wrench didn't come w/the bike....
Thanks

If you don't have either then it's very easy to make your own transmission oil dipstick. Take a piece of coat hanger wire, put a right angle in one end of it and then put a small bend in it 115 mm (a tad over 4.5") away from the right angle.
From this (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=339.msg518#msg518) thread.
Engine oil is checked at the sight glass when on the center stand.

Beat me to it Scott_
For K100RS Four Valve models and K1100s there should be an L-shaped piece of metal in your tool kit which is marked with the proper level for transmission.

greetings brad-man...
what i would do is take a piece of coat hanger wire... put a right angle in one end of it... then put a small bend in it 115 mm... a tad over 4.5" away from the right angle...

Thanks guys.
I don't have the tool kit and the Rider's Manual was showing the use of the rear shock spanner for both...

i don't have the trans oil dipstick. I found this here …...
Take a piece of coat hanger wire, put a right angle in one end of it and then put a small bend in it 115 mm (a tad over 4.5") away from the right angle
i'm a little (ok, a lot ) dense, but this doesn't make sense to me. I assume the right angle is a handle of sorts? the 4.5 away slight bend is what? helps fit it in past the gears? how much is a slight bend? How long is the wire after the slight bend? How is it read?
Told you I'm dense! :2thumbup:

The genuine tool for this is straight...no slight bend.
Upper level is 116 mm below the gasket surface for the filler plug, lower level is at 126 mm.
-
Put the coat hanger into the fill plug up to the right angle. The oil level should be at the slight bend that you have made. The actual angle of the slight bend is not important.

thanks y'all. I totally get it now. i just couldn't visualize it for some reason. Thanks again
