Title: won't start today
Post by: TajMan on August 26, 2013, 04:32:17 PM
My '93 K1100LT which I drove fine yesterday, won't start today. Just cranks no firing, as if kickstand were down, but it is up. I can't hear the fuel pump when I turn the key on or when I crank with the starter motor- ear to the tank, nothing. All fuses are good, 1/2 a tank of gas.

Maybe my fuel pump did die this time? What can I check next?

I just finished watching Long Way Down on netflix, where Ewan McGregor & his buddy Charlie ride their BMW 1200's from Scotland ALL down through to South Africa, awesome..

Get under there and flip the sidestand switch with your finger to make sure it clicks on and off. Then move sidestand by hand to make sure switch is in fact working. You should be able to hear it. Of course check the kill switch too.

If the fuel gauge is working then the side stand switch and the kill switch are ok.

1st thing I'd try is to unplug and re-seat the plug on the motronic under the seat.

Have you got access to a dc voltmeter. measure between the green and brown wire at the 4pin plug at the rear of the tank(on the bike side).
You should have the 12vdc for the 2-4 seconds when you turn the key, and when you crank the motor.

If you have it there, then the next place to measure is inside the tank at the pump terminals(obviously with the plug reconnected).

Bypassed the sidestand switch and fixed it!
I tracked down the cable, couldn't find quickly because wires were green not brown like I saw in the guide here:

makes sense with different model/year K bike

SWEET! Fuel pump is audible when you turn the key on.
