Title: Hi from an old Brickie
Post by: Greybeard on August 21, 2013, 07:23:31 PM
Hi All,

Found this site while looking for a workshop manual for my '85 K100RT - which I found here!

My brick is a Maroon/Burgundy K-RT - will try to post some photos soon - which is in need of some TLC after being in the 'care' of a friend for a few years.  This was while my good lady and I traveled this wide, brown land (Australia) for some years with a Land Rover and caravan ('travel trailer' for North Americans).

I've had the RT since new in 1985, when I collected it in Munchen (Munich), West Germany (Yes, this was still 4 years before the Berlin Wall came down - Crikey, I feel old sometimes...)  Back in the '80s, BMW Australia ran a European Delivery Scheme, which saved buyers quite a lot of money - at least enough to pay for airfares and a few weeks in Europe.  Shame it's long gone.

Put 52,000 km on the clock during two years in the UK and Europe before bringing the BM home in '87.  This included rides from London to Morocco and to Turkey (via the old Yugoslavia and norther Greece) plus much of western Europe.

Hope to bring the old girl back to her former glory sometime soon.  Fork seals, brake pads, steering stem bearings etc. hopefully followed by some fresh paint.

Great to find such an active site for the 'Bricks'.  Keep the rubbery side down!  :2thumbup:

Hi Ian.  Nice to hear from an original owner.  Not many show up with thess old bikes.  Most of us are #2 or 3 or more, I think.
Glad you are resurrecting her, should be fun.
