Title: 35L case jumps off bike
Post by: racinrich on August 16, 2013, 07:41:10 PM
I can't get to des plaines without crossing railroad tracks, twice in 1 week top  case came off, one time it passed me up!!! nothing inside case, it is correctly attached and takes a lot of force to remove it when locked down, any ideas other than screwing it on to the rails. rails are all tight. is this why everyone likes the 22 L ?

Hi Rich,I'm Keith,
Had mine jump off and pass me up in the left lane.
I rode over a bump (big as a speed bump)on the way to work and I was on the brakes coming up to a stop lite and the top case(35 ltr.) passed me up!
It has only happened once in the 8 yrs. I've had the bike.
I blamed it on the neighbor grand kids, messing with the latch? I have no idea why or how!!
You try to pull on the latch without twisting the handle and it won't let the latch give away?
Going over tracks is a violent action for the case way up there, kinda like a bucking bronco.
Rubber on back need to be replaced (old and shrunk up ) just a thought.keith

If it makes you feel any better, I had my 22L case jump off once, just happened to see it chasing me in my mirrors.  No idea why, hasn't happened again.

1st time I thought it wasn't locked down after removal.second time it was locked down box was locked and latch and twist bar were in lock position when I picked it off the road.maybe rubber is too hard. just seems odd
