Hi, Looking for some advice regarding my oil pressure light. Not had this K for long and it is a 1993 bike with good compression and no unusual noises. I have just noticed that after a long run the oil pressure light will flicker when I force the idle below 1,000rpm i.e. let the clutch out at tick over when slow speed manoeuvring. The oil is fresh, the level fills the sight glass and is 15W40 diesel mineral oil.
Is there anything to worry about or is it more likely that my oil pressure switch is a bit weak?
Anybody have a similar experience with their Kbike
Cheers, Robert

Your oil is a little thin, especially at higher temps. Spec for a K bike is 20w-50 (or more commonly, 15w-50). Its probably fine.
When you finish a long run, the oil heats up, and then right after, there is a bit of residual heat in the engine that makes its way into the oil as well. Dropping the idle below spec reduces the flow.

You could switch out the oil pressure sensor, they're cheap enough, or try some 20-50. Less likely the oil filter may be leaking slightly somehow. I've been running 10-40 dino for decades on a well worn K75 and never seen my oil pressure lite flicker.

Guys
Many thanks for the advice and will change to 20W50 grade.
Cheers. Robert

Hey, how is your oil pressure light issue? I just did an oil change on my K75, I used the 10w30 syn that I have used for the last 3 changes. This time the oil light came on when I started the bike and stayed on for the first mile. After a few miles I coasted in neutral to a red light. After the light turned green I took off like I stole the bike and the oil light came back on. I've has the bike for about 15K miles and have never had this problem before. When the bike is running on the center stand the oil level stays at 3/4 of the sight glass, I seem to recall that the level drops in the glass when the motor is running but can't say for sure. Any thoughts?
Thx, Greg

Switch to Mobile one 15-50, by gallon on sale at Wal Mart and sometimes BiMart. I never have a problem running it.

I drained the oil and checked the filter. Sure enough, it was not on tight. Pressure light turns off on as soon as I start the bike now.

:2thumbup: gotta love the simple solutions!

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I was out for a run with our club today and after a few miles I noticed the oil pressure light on my K1100LT flickering as described above. I was conscious that the engine was warm but I could see oil in the sight glass. I carry a spare litre just in case so I added a good squirt from my litre and carried on.
After I got home I decided to check the oil level and refill my litre bottle. I found that my gallon container of 15w-40 oil had been replaced by a gallon of 5w-40. Obviously by her indoors!
My oil level is fine but obviously too thin as per above. It pays to check your oil the night before you go out rather than in the morning as I remember putting oil in it a couple of days ago buy it was about 5:30am!
